CURRENT STATUS OF THE SUTURELESS AORTIC VALVE AS A NEW-GENERATION BIOPROSTHESIS IN JAPAN

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Tokyo Women’s Medical University, Tokyo, Japan

Chizuo Kikuchi, Hiroshi Niinami

The sutureless aortic valve was launched in Japan in 2019 for the treatment of aortic stenosis. Two commercially distinctive sutureless valves are already in use:Edwards Intuity and Liva Nova PERCEVAL. The advantages of sutureless valve replacement can be reduction of cross-clamp time and cardiopulmonary bypass time, thereby providing better surgical outcomes and promoting a minimally invasive approach suitable for elderly and high-risk patients. This report evaluates the safety and effectiveness of sutureless valves based on our experience. Further investigations are necessary to compare sutureless valve surgical outcomes with both conventional or transcatheter aortic valve replacement in Japan. Moreover, the appropriate surgical strategy for sutureless valve implantation should be assessed thoroughly.
