REGENERATIVE THERAPY FOR ISCHEMIC CARDIAC DISEASE

Some patients with severe heart failure caused by ischemic heart disease cannot be saved using existing treatment methods. There is an urgent need to develop new treatments to support the limitations of heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices, which are the fundamental methods in severe heart failure. Myocardial regeneration therapy using various cell transplants appears particularly promising. We have been conducting consistent development from basic research to clinical application in cooperation with manufacturers that deliver products to clinical sites. As a result, autologous skeletal muscle myoblast sheet transplantation, allogeneic iPS cell-derived cardiomyocyte transplantation, and transplantation using the adipose-derived stromal cell spray method have reached the clinical application stage. In this paper, we present the background and current status of the development of myocardial regeneration therapy using these cell transplants.
