ARTERIAL AND VENOUS GRAFTS FOR CORONARY ARTERY BYPASS SURGERY
There is no doubt that the internal thoracic artery is the best conduit for coronary artery bypass surgery. The internal thoracic artery not only improves blood flow of the bypassed coronary artery but also affects the endocrine system of the coronary artery by secreting NO. Recently, optimal long-term results of nontouch saphenous vein grafting have been reported. This could be the start of a revival of saphenous vein grafts. Some reports showed superiority of the radial artery over the saphenous vein and right internal thoracic artery in randomized studies. The US guidelines define the radial artery as the second conduit with a class 1 recommendation.
