For elderly patients with advanced gastric cancer, it is necessary to carefully stage the disease, examine the patient’s general condition and other organ functions, and select an optimal surgical procedure (extent of dissection, approach method, and extent of gastrectomy) that considers balance. Previous reports suggested the usefulness of minimally invasive surgery and the importance of function-preserving surgery (avoidance of total gastrectomy). The patient’s social background and the presence or absence of support from the surrounding community, including nutritional support, are also important factors in determining the treatment plan.
