CURRENT STATUS OF TRANSCATHETER AORTIC VALVE IMPLANTATION AND MIDTERM RESULTS

Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan

Kentaro Hayashida

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive transcatheter procedure for patients with aortic stenosis. The guidelines for the treatment of valvular heart disease were updated in 2020 in both the USA and Japan, including the indications for TAVI in low-risk patients. The indications for TAVI in patients on hemodialysis were also approved in Japan. Although the clinical outcomes are favorable, some limitations regarding valve durability, antithrombotic regimen, etc. remain. The complementary role of surgical aortic valve replacement and TAVI is essential to achieve the best clinical results for patients.
