PERIOPERATIVE NUTRITIONAL MANAGEMENT
Patients with advanced gastric cancer often experience preoperative malnutrition due to gastrointestinal obstruction caused by tumor progression. Postoperatively, reduced food intake and altered digestive function following gastrectomy can further exacerbate nutritional deficiencies. Perioperative malnutrition has been shown to negatively impact postoperative recovery, treatment tolerance, and long-term outcomes. To address these issues, several strategies have been explored. Improving adherence to nutritional supplementation is critical, as it helps patients maintain adequate nutrient levels. Additionally, the incorporation of exercise therapy has shown promise in supporting overall health and recovery. Innovations in reconstructive surgical techniques, aimed at minimizing postoperative weight loss, also play a vital role in preserving patients’ nutritional status and quality of life. This article highlights the importance of effective nutritional management in the treatment of gastric cancer and discusses recent advances in this field, emphasizing its role in improving clinical outcomes and enhancing patients’ overall prognosis.
