POLICY AND PLANS FOR THE FUTURE ANNUAL CONGRESS OF THE JAPAN SURGICAL SOCIETY

Department of Surgery and Oncology, Kyushu University Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Fukuoka, Japan

Masafumi Nakamura

The Japan Surgical Society organized a working group to revise its annual congress. The aim was to arrange the overlap of programs between meetings of several surgical societies and to lessen the burden on surgeons in attending the meetings. Therefore, the working group planned to organize a “surgical week” during which several surgical meetings would be jointly held in the same city on the same day. However, the general situation changed after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the most significant aim is to develop the infrastructure for online meetings in addition to arranging overlapping programs among surgical meetings.
