For the purpose to study the role played by NK cell and k cell, especially in the early stage of cancer, NK and ADCC activities of the peripheral blood of 121 cancer patiens of digestive tract were measured. The results were summerized as follows.
1) The NK activity of cancer patients showed a significant decreases as compared to that of patients with benign disease and of normal individuals. 2) The NK activity of patients with gastric cancer showed a significant decreases already at stage I as compared to that of normal individuals. 3) In normal individuals a high correlationship between the NK activity and ADCC activity was observed. Whereas, in cancer patients the correlationship between the two decreased. 4) A relatively high correlationship between the percentage of IgG-Fc receptor positive T cells in the entire lymphocytes and the peripheral blood ADCC activity was observed.
From these findings, it seems that in normal persons NK cell and K cell belong to a very similar subgroup, but in the cancer-bearing state the cell property would be slightly different. These cells seem to play an important role in the immunological surveillance mechanism aginst tumor, especially at the carcinogenic course.
