Damage control surgery is a strategy of staged surgeries or planned reoperations for injured patients with profound hemorrhagic shock and preoperative or intraoperative metabolic sequelae that are known to affect survival adversely. Effective use of the heroic techniques described in the text can stop the vicious circle to trauma death and can save the life of severely injured patients, especially of those with abdominal trauma. Therefore Japanese general surgeons should comprehend of the concepts and techniques of trauma damage control.
