A case of poststernotomy mediastinitis due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococus aureus after aortocoronary bypass procedure was treated with debridement, open clean packing, and delayed wound closure by the technique of pectoral muscle flap mobilization. The cosmetic and functional results were excellent.
This technique seems to be a very effective method of treatment for the serious complication of deep sternal infection with mediastinitis after cardiac operation.
