A rare case of Niemann-Pick's disease developing spontanous rupture of the spleen was presented.
The patient, 55 years old man, was transferred to us complaining severe abdominal pain and received an urgent laparotomy based on the diagnosis of acute abdomen. Massive hemorrhage due to the rutpture of the spleen was noted, and splenectomy was therefore performed. Postoperative course was uneventful. Histological and biochemical examinations of the specimen revealed the diagnosis of Niemann-Pick's disease in type B.
