A 22-year-old woman with giant hemangioma of the liver associated with disseminated intravascular coagulopathy and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia was successfully treated with extended right hepatic lobectomy following continuous i.v. administration of heparin. And 20 adult cases of hepatic hemangioma with hemorrhagic tendency were collected from Japanese literatures. These lesions were most frequently found in women in the fifth decade, and angiography was essential for the correct diagnosis. It is suggested that hepatic resection provides the most effective method for managing this disease, and radiotherapy is the treatment of choice in nonresectable cases.
