CHANGES IN GASTRIC SECRETION, SERUM GASTRIN-AND SECRETIN LEVELS AFTER PROXIMAL GASTRECTOMY IN DOGS

First Department of Surgery, Tottori University School of Medicine, Yonago

Gastric secretin, serum gastrin-and secretin levels were studied in dogs underwent 1/2 proximal gastrectomy, and 2/3 proximal gastrectomy. Gastric secretin was completely diminished in dogs with 2/3 proximal gastrectomy, but serum gastrin level was found to be high in the fasting, and increased more after test meal.
A small quantity of gastric secretion was recognized in dogs underwent 1/2 proximal gastrectomy, and elevated level of serum gastrin was noted without a response to test meal.
Integrated gastrin response in the 2/3 proximal gastrectomied dogs was of the same level as compared to normal controls, but the response was lower in dogs with 1/2 proximal gastrectomy. On 2/3 or 1/2 proximal gastrectomy, no change in the serum secretin levelw as observed either in the fasting or after test meal. Intergrated secretin response was low in dogs with proximal gastrectomy and in the normal controls.
