Twenty-five malignant tumors and a benign thymoma were innoculated into Balb/C nu/nu JCL male mice. The ratio of ‘take’ in all these tumors was 50% (13/26). The ratio of ‘take’ from the gastric cancer patients was 33.3% (4/12) and the one from the colorectal cancer patients was 71.4% (5/7). Tumors from the patients whose preoperative serum α2-globulin level was lowered had been taken greater than others. Even if tumor compornent was less than 25% in the innoculated block, the block had been taken as well as one greater than 50%. The age of mice did not affect the ratio of ‘take’ in the initial or serial transplantation. The ratio of ‘take’ from primary tumors was 33.3% (6/18) and the ratio from metastatic tumors was 70% (7/10). In gastric cancers, ileal cancer and colorectal cancers, 12 tumor blocks were spontaneously regressed even after its sizes reached over 250 mm3. The ratio of ‘take’ of the innoculated blocks in the serial transplantation (81.5%) was statistically higher than the initial transplantation (46.8%). The doubling time of gastric cancers innoculated into nude mice was 1.0~7.1 days and that of the large intestines was 1.3 ~ 17.4 days.
