Jaundice in association with hepatic cancer is ordinarily a result of extensive hepatic infiltration with tumor and/or functional disturbance of the liver in terminal stage.
However, we experienced three cases of a particular type of hepatic cancer, of which initial symptom was jaundice.
In those three cases, hepatic cancer invaded and ruptured into the bile duct relatively in early stage, and concequently caused mechanical obstruction of the bile duct due to either a continuously growing tumor cast or hemorrhage in the bile duct.
The characteristics and diagnostic keys of this particular type of hepatic cancer are described.
