To evaluate the effective amino acid solution during Total Parenteral Nutrition on liver disease, eperimental and clinical studies were performed.
In animal experiment, hepatic lesions were induced by successive administration of Dimethylnitrosamine. After one month of final administration, Total Parenteral Nutrition with three different amino acid solutions, each for one week with three days interval of oral feeding, was started. Glucose as a main calorie source and no fat emulsion were used. Serum GOT, GPT, Alkaline phosphatase, ammonia, aminogram and nitrogen balance studies were performed. The abnormal aminogram tended to become normal when FO-80 type amino acid was used as nitrogen source during Total Parenteral Nutrition. The same results were observed clinially during Total Parenteral Nutrition on cirrhotic patients with the same amino acid formula.
