Typical and atypical bronchopulmonary carcinoid (TC, AC) tumors are classified as intermediate-grade neuroendocrine tumors of the lung. However, AC tumors have more aggressive potential and worse prognosis than TC tumors. The current standard therapy for ACs is surgical resection in operable cases. Lobectomy with lymph node dissection is the standard procedure for AC, which is the same as for lung cancer. For inoperable cases, several chemotherapeutic regimens are available. However, no standard medical treatment has yet been established. Multimodal treatment for locally advanced AC tumors remains to be determined in the future.
