ACUTE ABDOMEN FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF PEDIATRICIANS

Department of Pediatrics, St. Luke’s International Hospital, Tokyo, Japan

Isao Kusakawa

For pediatricians, the medical treatment of children who visit a hospital for “abdominal pain” is common, but it is also one of the most feared complaints because it is difficult to make a proper diagnosis without overlooking hidden acute abdomen. Focusing on acute abdomen in children, medical care by pediatricians is being standardized under currently published medical guidelines. Once acute abdomen is diagnosed, consultation with a pediatric surgeon is indispensable. It is therefore important to establish cooperative relationships between pediatric surgeons and pediatricians.
