The Nationwide Liver Cancer Registry started in 1967, when the Liver Cancer Study Group of Japan was founded. Since then, liver cancer registry data have been published 20 times. The most recent data were published in March 2019, when 21,075 new patients with liver cancer and 40,769 follow-up patients were registered. From December 24, 2015, the liver cancer registry system was moved to the National Clinical Database system.
