MULTIINSTITUTIONAL REGISTRY OF LARGE BOWEL CANCER IN JAPAN
The Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum (JSCCR) was founded in 1974 and started to collect clinicopathological data on colorectal cancer patients in Japan. Those data have been collected and analyzed each year. At the same time, the collected data have been used to formulate and revise the Japanese Classification of Colorectal Carcinoma and the JSCCR Guidelines for the Treatment of Colorectal Cancer. Researchers working in institutions that submit data to the JSCCR can use the archived data for clinical research. The quality of the registry data is satisfactory. However, one problem is the coverage ratio, which is currently around 6%. Methods to increase the coverage ratio have been discussed in committees of the JSCCR, and collaboration with the National Clinical Database was identified as a potential option to solve this problem.
