TREATMENT STRATEGY FOR LIVER METASTASIS FROM GASTRIC CANCER

Department of Gastroenterological Surgery, Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine, Nagoya, Japan

Yasuhiro Kodera

Chemotherapy is the standard of care for gastric cancer patients with liver metastasis. Due to the paucity of hard evidence, other treatment modalities are not mentioned in the Japanese treatment guidelines for gastric cancer. However, some case series suggest that carefully selected patients may benefit from local treatment such as hepatectomy, radiofrequency ablation, and hepatic arterial infusion. The indications for local treatment and optimal method to combine it with systemic chemotherapy are discussed based on the information currently available.
