A CASE OF SPONTANEOUS RUPTURE OF THE ESOPHAGUS

Spontaneous rupture of the esophagus is a rare clinical and pathologic condition, and in Japanese literature only about 60 cases have been reported. The mortality rate still remains very high, particularly when the establishment of diagnosis is delayed. Recent advances in the management of these patients, however, have shown a considerable improvement of the prognosis. This is a case report of successfully treated spontaneous rupture of the esophagus, and the diagnosis and the mode of therapy for this disease were discussed.
