CANCER THERAPY AND PARENTERAL NUTRITION (HYPERALIMENTATION)

An experimental study was designed to estimate an importance of parenteral nutrition in the treatment of cancer patients. Four kinds of experiments using unstressed continuous iv infusion model for rats have been perfo med.
As a result, postoperative immediate parenteral nutrition have been effective for both maintenance of protein metabolism and wound healing. Parenteral nutrition as an adjunct to chemotherapy have been found to be effective. Regarding tumor growth, parenteral nutrition did not stimulate tumor cell growth as comparing to orally fed animals, whereas malnutrition inhibited cell growth.
