Kimihiro Komori

The Japanese Committee for Stentgraft Management (JACSM) was established with the aim of ensuring the safe, appropriate use of commercial stent grafts following their regulatory approval. The JACSM comprises 10 associations related to endovascular treatment.
In the 11 years following the establishment of the JACSM, 552 institutions have met the practice standards for endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) and 455 institutions for thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). The number of surgeons performing EVAR reached 1434, with 855 supervising surgeons, while the totals for TEVAR reached 729 and 394, respectively. As of April 2017, 52,613 cases of EVAR and 22,394 of TEVAR had been registered. JACSM data show that the hospital mortality rates were 1.07% for EVAR and 2.7% for TEVAR.
Surgical outcomes following the introduction of stent grafts were generally good and comparable to previous reports from other countries. The procedure spread safely without the learning curve seen in the initial stages following the introduction of new medical materials, indicating that the practice standards are appropriate.
