SURGICAL TREATMENT FOR A COARCTATION OF THE AORTA IN AN ADVANCED AGED WOMAN

A 55 years old woman with coarctation of the aorta underwent coarctectomy by end to end anastomosis successfully. She had not showed sign and symptom except hypertension until 55 years of age.
Preoperative findings of cardiac catheterization and aortography were as follows: apressure gradient of 100mmHg at the severe, short segmental coarctation and prominent development of internal mammary artery and intercostal artery as collateral circulation.
After coarctectomy, hypertension improved and postoperative examination revealed no pressure gradient.
This is a surgically resected case of coarctation of the aorta in the most advanced aged woman in Japanese literature.
