First Department of Surgery, Nihon University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan

Four hundred and ninety-two cases of neuroblastoma were collected from 14 institutions in Japan and they were analyzed by International Neuroblastoma Staging System and staging systems by Evans (CCSG), Tumor Committee of Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgeons, Pediatric Oncology Group and International Union Against Cancer. It is suggested that in order to improve the prognosis of the patients with this tumor, therapeutic strategies based on risk factors including not only staging system, but also patient's age, tumor histology, N-myc copies, serum ferritin level, NSE level and so forth are necessary.
