Nowadays laser is utilized in several fields of surgical treatments. In this study we report a photodynamic therapy (PDT) for an esophageal cancer, and a laser lithotripsy for biliary calculi. As to an esophageal cancer, by using a tumor・selective charactor or PDT, laser is used for 1) a treatment of a residual cancer after a radio-chemo therapy for inoperable cases, 2) a radical treatment of an early cancer in which it is not necessary to consider a lymph node metastasis, 3) an adjuvant treatment of the local lesion as an perioperative use for a prevention of the recurrence. As to biliary calculi, Nd : YAG laser is effective for a lithotripsy, and recently a Flush-lamp-pumped Dye laser enables us to use a thinner laser transmitter, which makes it possible to achieve a much more efficient lithotripsy and a shorter period of the treatment.
