Surgical treatments of lung cancer and lung transplanttion were discussed in this lecture.
Concerning with basic research in the treatment of lung carcinomas, aggressiveness of the tumors was estimated with invasive potential, morphometry, nuclear DNA contents, thymidine kinase titer, and etc., and these parameters were discussed with the patients' prognoses. The effectiveness and the future application of MRI, E-EUS, the imaging with monoclonal antibodies, etc. for the precise diagnosis of invasion and metastasis for the staging and the evaluation of the operability of lung cancers were mentioned in the diagnosis of lung cancer. The effectiveness and the future application on of the surgical resection of lung carcinomas combined with diverse adjuvant therapies were also discussed to improve the prognosis, which included various kinds of chemotherapy, BRM and radiotherapy.
Concerning with canine lung transplanttion, lung preservation methods and lung viability which was estimated by Prostaglandin I2 releasing capacity were mentioned, and the correlation between cytotoxic activity in the recipient's peripheral blood lymphocytes against donor skin fibroblasts and morphological rejection phases in the transplanted lungs were discussed.
