Department of Head and Neck Surgery, Aichi Cancer Center Hospital, Nagoya, Japan

Hidehiro Matsuura

Fifty six cases with pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland were evaluated on local recurrences following surgical treatments which were performed from 1970 to 1983.
The surgical treatments for the tumors were 11 extirpations and 45 parotidectomies. The recurrence in each treatment was observed in one (9%) and in none (0%), respectively.
The average follow-up period is 11 years (from 5 to 19) .
The treatment of choice for pleomorphic adenoma is the parotidectomy, of the superficial, deep and/ or posterior, lobes.
