Ano-rectal manometry was carried out in 31 children with Hirschsprung's disease who underwent rectoplasty with posterior triangular colonic flap, 35 children with anorectal malformation who underwent proper anoplasty and 15 patients who underwent low anterior resection for rectal carcinoma.
Improvements of sphincter control of patients with Hirschsprung's disease after radical operation were considered to be due to; stabilized motility of the ano-neorectum, preservation of sphincter muscles, maturation of rectal reservoir and coordinated movement of ano-neorectum.
In patients with ano-rectal malformation after anoplasty, improvements of sphincter control were considered to be due to; preservation of sphincter muscles and pubo-rectal muscle and coordinated movement of ano-neorectum.
In patients who underwent low anterior resection for rectal carcinoma, improvements of sphincter control were considered to be due to; preservation of sphincter function, restoration of rectal reservoir and coordinated movements of colo-rectal anastomosis.
