CURRENT STATUS OF INTERVENTIONAL ANGIOGRAPHY

Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Keio University, School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan

Kyoichi Hiramatsu

Angiographic examinations have been widely used for the diagnosis of various diseases, and marked development of superselective manipulation of catheters have fbeen successfully applied for the transcatheter treatment of neoplasms, bleedings, vascular disorders and many other diseases. These transcatheter treatments were well accepted clinically, and sometimes excellent therapeutic effects were obtained quite equivalent to surgical procedures.
This new approach was called "interventional angiography", including intraarterial chemotherapy and transcatheter arterial embolization for neoplasms, selective arterial infusion of vasoconstrictors or embolizatin for acute bleedings, obliteration of esophageal varices or AVM, intravascular thrombolysis or percutaneous transluminal angioplasty for vascular disorders, and many other procedures.
