TREATMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF BURNS IN THE EARLY STAGE

Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Nagasaki Medical School Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan

Katsuya Namba

Management and therapeutic planning of burns in the early stage were discussed.
How to treat burns depends on the size, depth, and site of the bumed body surface, as well as the age of the patient. Therefore, it is urgent to find out the precise pathology and conditions. In particular, adult cases with more than 15 to 20% of body surface burned, or children and elderly cases over 10%, go into the stage of shock from the beginning and in danger of developing sepsis. Therefore, management of shock by infusion and prevention of infection by antibiotics are mandatory, whereas systemic management is unnecessary for those who had burns in less than 15 to 20% of body surface. Local treatment is all which is needed for them.
In regard to the local treatment, specific regions such as the face, hand, and perineum were mentioned, describing the particular treatment in each region in the early stage.
