CONTACT DOUBLE-CONTRAST CHOLANGIOGRAPHY
Usual operative cholangiogaphy, setting the x-ray film beneath patient back, has the limitation in visualization of the fine detail. To reinforce this weak point, the authors have explored new technique, contact double-contrast cholangiography (CDCC).
This technique, CDCC, is achieved by low voltage x-ray on the triangle-shaped mammography film, which is placed derectly beneath the second part of the duodenum and head of pancreas, with compound contrast media consisted of a few milliliters of barium, Gascon and air, injected to the common bile duct through the cystic duct following usual operative cholangiography.
The aurthors performed CDCC on 222 patients, mainly with cholelithiasis, since June, 1975 to February, 1981. Of these cases, several demonstrable cases are presented and discussed in this paper.
CDCC has several advantages, that is, a fine visualization of distal bile duct with little operative maneuver, little time consumption, and low cost without any complications anywhere if only a portable x-ray unit provided and also it is safely applicable to iodine-allergic patients.
