In the past 8 years we have surgically treated 25 patients with thyroid carcinoma infiltrating the trachea. In 24 of these 25 patients sleeve resection of the trachea along with resection of thyroid carcinoma was performed through cervical or cervicomediastimal exposure. The trachea was reconstructed by end to end anastomosis.
Seventeen of these 24 patients are alive. Thirteen of these 17 patients are disease free and 6 of these 13 patients have survived more than 5 years. Five patients died due to recurrence of the disease and there was one operative death. One patient escaped follow up.
