LONGTERM RESULT OF PERMANENT PACING FOR THE BRADY CARDIA
In this paper the clinical result of longterm pacing as the treatment for severe brodycardia is presented.
Ninety cases of conduction disturbances such as A-V block, including several cases of sick sinus syndrome were observed for more than 3 years. Four cases died in acute stage (acute mortality rate: 4.4%), and all cases showed the myocardial impairment such as primary myocardial disease, myocardial infarction and myocardial sarcoidosis.
Among 25 cases who died in late stage, 13 cases died from non cardiac disease, and in remaining 12 cases, 8 cases died from original cardiac disease and others from unknown causes.
Three year survival rate is around 80% and almost 60% of survived cases was estimated in class I of NYHA functional classification.
In order to improve the morbidity of the chronically paced cases, it was suspected that more physiological pacing mode have to be adopted in the cases with poor myocardial reserve.
