TRANSABDOMINAL ESOPHAGEAL MUCOSAL TRANSECTION
In 1972, we developed a transabdominal esophageal mucosal transection of esophageal varices. Our procedure is a modification of Walker, but different in many ways. It is safe, easily performed, and effective in the management and prevention of bleed without loss of the function of the lower esophagus.
We reported on the detail of the operation by a moving picture. The main feature of this operation is the four separate procedures done in one transabdominal approach. They consist of splenectomy, dissection of the left gastric and devascularization of collateral route in the proxymal portion of the stomach, mucosal transection of the abdominal esophagus, and pyloroplasty.
