APPEARANCE OF INTRAPERITONEAL FREE CANCER CELLS AND THEIR VIABILITY IN GASTRIC CANCER
Appearance of free cancer cells in the peritoneal cavity of gastric cancer patients was studied in comparison with the serosal invasion of the cancer. The viability of free cancer cells was estimated by emzymological staining and
3H-thymidine uptake with autoradiographical technique.
The results were sumarized as follows.
1) Intraperitoneal free cancer cells were found in 48% with serosal invasion of S
2, S
3 and were found frequently in the cases with the serosal invasion looked like moss-like at the center surrounded fine granular in macroscopically.
2) Free cancer cels were found in almost all cases with the serosal area infiltrated by cancer exceeding 20 cm
2.
3) In the case with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, free cancer cells were found frequently.
4) The intraperitoneal free cancer cells were revealed to have relatively high viability in the study of emzymological staining and autoradiographical technique with
3H-thymidine and was expected to have an ability to implant.
5) The viability of intraperitoneal free cancer cells could be suppressed markedly by intraperitoneal administration of 10 mg Mitomycin-C.
