Based upon the histological findings, metastatic lymph nodes of the gastric cancer were classified into two groups. One was the so-called nodular type ; metastatic mass sharply separated from the surrounding lymphatic tissues. The other was the so-called infiltrating type ; intramedullary infiltration of the cancer cells and a small amount of distructive lymphatic tissues. We examined the 1182 pieces of the positive lymph nodes metastasis from 212 cases among 472 cases of resected gastric cancer from six years after 1971. Histological pattern of 79 cases in 97 cases which showed nodular type metastasis was well defferentiated carcinoma. Among these 64 cases induated α- or β-type infiltration. In contrast, 96 cases in 104 cases with infiltrating type showed undifferented carcinoma and 86 cases of those induated γ-type infiltration. Experimentally, we examined the 3074 pieces of lymph nodes from 84 Donryu-Rats which were transplanted into the left testis with 105 cells of AH 130 and YS sarcoma cells. YS sarcoma cells were known biologically more malignant compared to the AH 130 cells. Histological pattern and growth pattern of the sarcoma cells in the lymph nodes transplanted with AH 130 were very resembled to the pattern of nodular type, and those transplanted with YS sarcoma cells were similar to the pattern of infiltrating pattern. So the cases which showed the infiltrating type were thought to be more malignant compared to the cases which showed the nodular type.
