DEVICES OF SHUNTING SYSTEM IN THE TREATMENT OF HYDROCEPHALUS

In the treatment of hydrocephalus, the silicone rubber has been in common use as for a shunting device since Nulsen, Pudenz and others introduced the one-way flow valve system. Since then to lower the complication rate and morbidity, such as malfunction of the shunt, infection, and low pressure syndrome, every possible efforts and new development of various shunting systems have been made. The purpose of this communicating was to touch on the historical aspect as well as some devices of the shunting system, and to present the simplified technique of lumbar subarachnoid peritoneal shunt that the authors designed recently, details of the shunting system and finally discuss our surgical results.
