COMBINATION THERAPIES IN SURGERY FOR PULMONARY CANCER
-THE PROBLEMS OF CHEMOTHERAPY IN PARTICULAR-

Dept. of Surgery, Institute of Pulmonary Cancer Research, School of Medicine, Chiba University

Y. Yamaguchi

The results of radiation therapy and chemotherapy as the combination therapy of the surgery for pulmonary cancer were reported and further the analysis about the factors for increasing the results and about the policy of treatment of recurrence were tried. The long-termed intermittent chemotherapy which we advocate and carry out showed the best result, comparing with the other forms of chemotherapy which we perform. However, some side effects can be obserbed by this method in which more than two kinds of anticancer agent are administered every day in a period ( 1 course) because of repeating this procedure in every three months. As on another problem, the fluctuation of the immunity of the host can be pointed out. According to the skin test of delayed hypersensitivity by the antigens as PPD, SK/ SD, DNCB, and to the examinations of the serum blocking activity on PHA lymphocyte blastogenesis, the number of peripheral lymphocytes and peripheral T-cells, the immunity descended in one or two weeks after the administration and mostly recovered in three months. It was observed that, after the fourth course of long-termed intermittent chemotherapy, the immunity of the host went down and could not be recovered even after the administration.
