THE SURGICAL TREATMENT OF CARCINOMA OF THE BREAST
Although the result of the treatment of carcinoma of the breast is better than that of carcinoma of another site, it is not in the ideal state. The survival rates, the frequency and site of reccurence have been examined utilizing clinical stages, T and N classifications and histopathology in our hospitals. The carcinoma of the breast tends to metastase through lymphnodes, blood streams and infiltrations. We conclude that the early stage of carcinoma which size is less than 2 cm is curable even by the modified radical mastectomy. However, whenever this method is applied, the clinical stage of advancement must be accurately determined for every patient, and then the post operative care is mandatory. On the other hand, the standard radical mastectomy should be used in the case with local metastases, and chemotherapy, radiation therapy and/or combination are necessary if required.
