CLINICAL AND PATHOLOGICAL STUDIES ON GASTRIC CANCER IN THE AGED PERSON
The morphologic characteristics of gastric carcinoma in the aged person ("Aged") were histologically examined in 65 patients over the age of 70, comparing with those of gastric carcinoma in young person ("Young").
Histologically, 32.3% of 65 cases was diagnosed as well differentiated adenocarcinoma, and the frequency in severe stromal response (lymphoid infiltration) of the "Aged" with well differenciated adenocarcinoma was apparently high in comparison with that of the "Young". The cases with ly(3) were found in 15.4% of "Aged" and in 42.9% of "Young". There was no difference of the frequency of the cases with s(+) between "Aged" and "Young", but the cases with p(+) were found in 20% of "Aged" and in 42.8% of "Young".
From these results we can elucidate the reason why gastric carcinoma in "Aged" shows higher resectability than gastric carcinoma in "Young".
