(especially discussing the histological components of the elevation)

Institute of Gastroenterology, Tokyo Women's Medical College

Masakatsu Yabata

The types of histological components of the elevation in the resected stomachs with 59 lesions of early gastric cancer were studied.
Specimens were classified into 6 types according to histological components of the elevation.
Type 1 : The elevation is formed of cancerous tissue. (29 lesions)
Type 2 : The elevation is formed of cancer and muscularis mucosa. (9 lesions)
Type 3 : The elevation is formed of cancer and cyst (s) . (8 lesions)
Type 4 : The elevation is formed of muscularis mucosa. (6 lesions)
Type 5 : The elevation is formed of cyst(s) . (4 lesions)
Type 6 : The elevation is formed of non-cancerous epithelium. (3 lesions)
Relations between components of the elevation and localization, size of elevation, form of specimen, form of muscularis mucosa, height of elevation, histological type of carcinoma, specimen form of cancer type, cancer invasion of gastric wall and grade of metaplasia et. were discussed.
The elevated early gastric cancer is not consisted of only cancerous tissue, but also consisted of muscularis mucosa, cyst (s) and non-cancerous epithelium.
