With the conventional storage type Cathode Ray Tube, it is impossible to differentiate each of the reflected echo signals of various levels of strength. In contrast, with this method, it becomes possible to recognize respectively the various images due to the different strength of their individual echo levels. Thus, the differences of intensity of ultrasonic echoes of between wall of and stone in the gall bladder have been demonstrated in a form of the different gray scale echography. Cholecysto-tomograms of cholecystolithiasis examined by this method could be classified either into the cystic or the solid pattern. Moreover, since the original echo images are directly digitalized and processed with the aid of a computer, it is possible to get more accurate and useful information about the echoes with this method. In diagnosing cholecystolithiasis, we found detection rate of 97% of gall stones with this method, which is much superior than that of 57% with the routine radiographic cholecystography.
