EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE TRAN SPORTATION OF THE INTESTINAL CONTENTS FOLLOWING GASTRECTOMY

In order to comprehend the transportation of the intestinal contents (beads) and its recovery following gastrectomy, I have done the expriments as described below. By putting experimental foreign bodies (beads) into the three different regions such as the upper part of duodenum, and upper and medial parts of intestin, the postoperative transporting condition was observed at three hours, six hours, nine hours, and twelve hours, respec tively.
In the case of an exploratory laparotomy, the beads passed through the intestine nine hours after the opration, and the speed rate in the medial intestine was fastest.
The beginning time of the transportation and the passing speed after gastrectomy was slowest when the beads were put into the upper intestine. In this case, mostly the foreign bodies pass through the intestine in nine to twelve hours after the gastrectomy.
No difference was noted between the partial gastrectomy, Billroth's I and 11, but it was fastea after total resection and it was fastest after circular resection.
At two weeks atter gastrectomy it was not completely restored to a normal condition, but difference was hardly noted from the case an exploratory laparotomy was performed,
In the case that the transiusion of the isotonic solution was done intravenously after gastrectomy, or that oxygene was supplied into intestine, the beads pass through the intestine more quickly than the cases such things were not done.
In the case some antibiotics are used, the trausportion speed of the beads after gastrectomy is not different from the case that they are not used.
