It has been a very important problem that the shock like conditions in the early stage of the severe head injury is the real traumatic shock or not. This problem was attempted to be solved using the so-called three major shock indicator: that is, the increase of Amino-N, decreae of pH and CO2 contents of the arterial blood flow, which has been used in our group in the past ten years for the determination of the traumatic shock.
The experimental head blow was applied on the rabbits by dropping the weights from certain heights and the above mentioned three shock indicators were determined and the following results were obtained:
1) Only by the head injury, the traumatic shock is not induced at all . Howerver, if the individual has the heavy injury on the other part of the body, the shock might be induced.
2) If the enough dosis of the electric current is applied on the upper thigh immediately after the experimental head blow, some group dies under the real shock condition and another group does not show the shock picture after torelate the early shock stage.
3) If shock dosis of electric current is applied about 30-40 minutes after the head blow, the appearance of shock is apparently inhibited.
These incidence is supposed to be due to the blockage of shock circle between the brain and the other part of the body by the head damage just like the general anesthesia.
