A FUNDAMENTAL STUDY OF THE PHOTOELECTRICAL PLETHYSMOGRAPHY
The photoelectrical plethysmography is one of the most useful methods of examination of the peripheral circulation, especially of finger tips and tubed pedicle skin flaps. For obtaining excellent results, we analysed electrical, mechanical, physical artifacts and physiological medium, too.
The author repoted in this paper as follows :
(1) Designing and producing of the apparatus of the photoelectrical plethysmography were discussed and the author showed some new types of the pie-up-head which were used in recording of pulse waves and blood volume changes in finger tips or tubed pedicles. On the other hand, many factors were discussed concerning mechanical and physical artifacts exerting influences upon the recodings.
(2) In respect of the calibulation for quantitative evaluation of the pulse waves in fingers, by use of a red filter, the author showed many difficulties concerning with photoelectrical phenomenons.
(3) Many physiological factors which caused some errors for evaluating the records of the plethysmogram of fingers were recited, including the venous stasis, arterial pressure, position of fingers compared with the heart level, contact pressure between finger and instrument, variety of portion in finger and difference of the finger tips.
(4) According to above mentioned matters, the author submitted a new method for the recording and evaluation in the photoelectrical plethysmography of the finger tips which named a local compressing plethysmography.
