STUDIES ON THE TENSILE STRENGTH OF WOUNDS
Part 2. About some factors influencing on the tensile strength.
I have tried the biological studies on the wound healing about the general and topical use of some agents, and some experiment has been discussed. I have also determined the tensile strength of the stomach wall wound and anastomosis of the bowels.
The results are as follows :
1) Parenteral administration of dl-methionine and methionine-polytamin mixture or α-tocopherol to protein depleted animals elevates the curve of wound healing process. In the case used cortisone to the protein depleted animal, the healing process is lower than the control.
2) When administered talc, jodine tincture and sulfamine powder topically in normally dieted animals, the healing curve is lower than the control.
The healing curve of the case used topically penicillin, rivanol and mercurochrom solution in wounds is same as the control.
3) The healing rate of abdominal wall wounds is similar as that of stomach wall.
4) The tensile strength of entero anastomosis decreases at 2nd or 3rd postoperative day, and then increases gradually.
5) The administration of intestinal antiseptics, e.g., phthalylsulfathiazole or streptomycin, has shown eftective to the wound healing process of the large bowel.
