EXPERIMENTAL AND CLINICAL STUDIES ON THE EFFECTS OF EXCISION OF THE SUPERIOR MESENTERIC PLEXUS FOR CHRONIC CONSTIPATION
PART 2. CLINICAL STUDIES ON THE EFFECTS FOR CHRONIC CONSTIPATION BY MEANS OF EXCISION OF THE SUPERIOR MESENTERIC PLEXUS
On the basis of anatomical and physiological characteristics of the plexus and experimental results which described under Part 1., I put in practice for 11 cases suffering from long and obstinate constipation, and obtained the following effects.
1) In spite of complicating marked sigma elongatum mobile (7 cases), same as extensive coecum mobile and high ptosis of the transverse colon (all cases), almost cases were cured only by this way.
2) In 7 of 11 cases, pericolic adhesions at the coecum and ascending colon were found, but almost cases had favorable course only by means of isolation from this nervous fibres.
3) In proportion to regulation of evacuation, diminishing or loss of various unconfortable abdominal and gastic troubles were proved.
4) On the roentgenological examination, clearly improvement of motor function of the intestine and of coloptosiss were seen.
5) Unpleasant complication after operation were not experienced, and this method have a good quality for the preservation of the intestinal functions.
6) From the above-mentioned clinical results, I beIieve and emphasize that this neurosurgical method will be applied to the right half colon resection or many anastomosis for chronic constipation.
