EXPERIMENTAL AND CLINICAL STUDIES ON THE EFFECTS OF EXCISION OF THE SUPERIOR MESENTERIC PLEXUS FOR CHRONIC CONSTIPATION
PART 1. EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON THE INFLUENCES TO INTESTINAL MOVEMENTS AFTER EXCISION OF THE SUPERIOR MESENTERIC PLEXUS
Chronic constipation are arised from various factors, so mumerous surigcal therapeutic methods have been reported.
At first with a view to application of excision of the superior mesenteric plexus for chronic constipation patients based on its anatomic innervation and physiological functions, the present investigation was made, and the following conclusions were obtained.
1) The movements of dog's lower part of the ileum, depended on balloon method connected with recording tambour through the intestinal fistula, was described very regular continuous contractions without periodicity.
2) Owing to the plexus excision the intestinal movements were not almost influenced experimentally.
3) By analysis of the movements which the adheaions were caused by mechanical and chemical methods, the author obtained the different 2 wave-types, strongly exciting contractions and extensively atonic contractions.
4) After excision of the plexus, the former showed no changes, but the latter restored to normal similar rhythmic waves.
5) The normal dog's upper half colon motilities investigated by way of same mean through the appendicular fistula showed regular rhythmic waves consisted of three wave-types with periodicity.
6) The movements which isolated from its nervous innervation was described nonchanged wave-types.
7) Motilities of the same part of dog's colon, which pericolic adhesions were caused by mechanical and chemical ways, showed the following wave-types, marked exciting contractions and signal atonic contractions, too.
8) These unusual waves were transformed into same wave-types mentioned at the small intestine after sympathectomy.
9) By reason of above-mentioned experimental results, I expected that this neurosurgical method will be applied to right half colon resection for chronic atonic constipation.
